  • This is a decent spot if you dont want to deal with powerboats, but the word is out and i had a lot more company that i thought. I expected one or two others and i must have seen ten. I am not calling it the 95 during rush hour, but it is not solitary.

Babcock Pond Description

Babcock Pond, Colchester (119 acres) Species: (LMB YP S CP BB) Other: 8 mph speed limit.Shore fishing access and boat launch. Babcock Pond, though small, offers superb marshland paddling. This shallow pond, lying within the Babcock Pond Wildlife Management Area, sports huge, unbroken rafts of fragrant waterlily, along with other abundant aquatic vegetation, including pickerelweed, water shield, yellow pondlily, and at least two species of bladderworts yellow-and purple-flowered. Because of the aquatic vegetation, paddling here can present a challenge, especially late in the season, and works best with the goal of a leisurely visit to study the plants. Expect to see: wood duck; rafts of fragrant waterlily and water shield. The dock that may be in photos is no longer in place, but there is still a carry-in launch point.
